January 7, 2026 Recap

We had an awesome kick-off to our 2026 season of the Guild on Wednesday. Not only did we have TWO new faces, some of us actually got some writing done! BANANAS.

Let's get to it!

First, we MISSED Krista, Brad, and Charlene, and our honourary members/chauffeurs/bodyguards. Hoping health and time and space and capacity are in place for next time. :)

Second, we had TWO new members! We are excited to welcome Michelle and Jessica! :) Both of them write romance, but Michelle also dabbles in the scintillating world of white papers about the financial implications and issues with our healthcare system and Jessica writes blog posts about the delicate subject of the psychology of female rage and anxiety. You know. For funsies. Welcome, Michelle and Jessica!

Now, for some business! :)

In not so great news, we didn't get any funding from the Region for our anthology. However, Sven and I are booking a call with someone from the committee to walk us through why we didn't make the cut and to talk about how to strengthen our application so we can try for some funding in April. So, fingers crossed for SPRING money! ;)

In better news (?), we are going to do a fun prompt session again for Valentine's Day! I will be bringing some romance-themed prompts for our February 4, 2026 meeting. Again, this is COMPLETELY optional and voluntary, but as we have seen in the past, so much fun! :) We'll be writing pieces and sharing them the day of (IF YOU WANT TO), so no major prep or angst about perfection.

And in things-sort-of-went-off-the-rails-as-they-always-do, we have a new section to our recap: Things You Should Google (In Incognito Mode (OR by putting "for a book" afterward)). Ahem.

Things You Should Google (In Incognito Mode (OR by putting "for a book" afterward))
  • Zipper vagina
  • Minotaur milking
  • AI tattoo placement
  • Sobbing uteruses
  • Howling cocks
  • Serpent romance novels
I think that was it. I'm sure there was more, but I was laughing too hard to really hear much more. Also, I feel like that is a pretty solid list.

As you make your way through your adult-responsibility-filled week, we hope you find time to be creative, to rest, to enjoy this season of hibernation and reset. And we can't wait to hang out with all of you again next time, on Wednesday January 21, 2026

Happy writing!

Julia and Sven
